Welding rods consist of a core and a coating which is being produced in a co-extrusion process. Tylose® is applied to the coating and acts as a binding and plasticising agent in the extrusion process. It improves the elasticity of the extruded material and thus reduces crack formation directly after production. Tylose® also influences the shrinking process of the coating and optimises its adhesion to the rod.
Tylose® H grades with a high viscosity level are recommended for this application.
Tylose® has numerous advantageous properties such as thickening, water retention, adhesion, binding, plasticising, film forming, gelling and surface tension modifying. Utilising these properties makes Tylose® a highly suitable additive for many applications.
