Suspension polymerisation (EPS)

Suspension polymerisation of styrene monomer leads to one of the most important polymers - polystyrene. In its gas-impregnated form, expandable polystyrene (EPS), is widely used as insulation material in the construction industry and as packaging material. In the polymerisation process Tylose® acts as protective colloid, adjusting the particle size distribution of the resulting polymer particles, prohibiting coalescence. The diameter of the resulting polymer particles is about 10 to 1000 μm.

 

Tylose® H grades with a low viscosity level are recommended.
